Topic: Random
Posted by Chris Cummings at 5:50 PM EDTThe movies have taught us that certain summer jobs, such as the Camp Counselor, can lead either to hilarious & sexy hijinks (see American Pie) or terrible bloodshed (see: Friday The 13th). Me, I mowed lawns during the summer months, which lead to neither hijinks nor slaughter. But did pay for plenty of movies and video games. How about you? What was your favorite summer job? And what would your ideal summer job be? Updated: Tuesday, 22 July 2008 5:55 PM EDT Log in to Comment | Permalink Wednesday, 16 July 2008Question of the Day: What's Your Favorite Olympic Event?
Topic: Random
Posted by caroline81 at 2:19 PM EDTThe Summer Olympic Games, or as they are officially known, the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, begin on August 8th in Beijing. I love the Olympics and I will admit that watching the Olympic Games on TV has made me cry in the past. So today's Question of the Day is, what is your favorite Olympics event? Although I adore swimming and diving, my absolute favorite event to watch is gymnastics. The concept of supporting one's entire body with one's arms is so beyond my physical capability that I cannot help but be terribly impressed. Posted by caroline81 at 3:04 PM EDT![]() McDonald's iconic Big Mac turns 40 years old this year (and it doesn't look a day over 35!). In honor of the Big Mac's birthday, today's question of the day is, what is your favorite fast food establishment? While there is very little that beats the cool taste of a Wendy's chocolate frosty for me, my overall best fast food pick would have to go to In-N-Out Burger for their fresh beef patties and crispy (non-fat-soaked) fries. Californians know what I'm talking about.

Topic: Random
Posted by caroline81 at 3:42 PM EDTSome of Hollywood's most memorable movies take place in high school. From "Rebel Without a Cause" to " "10 Things I Hate About You" high school movies can portray timeless depictions of what it's like to grow up - both the horrors and the hilarity. So, for today's question of the day, I ask, what is your all-time favorite high school movie? For me, nothing beats "The Breakfast Club" with the archetypal brain, athlete, basket case, princess, and criminal.

Posted by caroline81 at 3:02 PM EDTGame Three of the NBA Finals took place in Los Angeles last night. While the Celtics had been leading 2-0, the Lakers took the game last night on their home turf. The next two games - now needed - will be played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles at which point the series will return to Beantown. So, Gamesvillers, which team are you rooting for this June?

Some columnists have suggested that rising gas prices may actually be good for the environment, if people are more compelled to save money by driving less. So, our question of the day is: How are you handling rising gas prices? Are you carpooling? Have you changed any of your summer plans? Or are you just gritting your teeth like I am and shelling the extra cash? Topic: Random
Posted by caroline81 at 12:01 AM EDTThis week, a truck filled with 20,000 pounds of Oreo cookies overturned on a highway in Illinois. No one was hurt, but the Oreos spilled across the entire highway and the police had to shut down lanes while the cookies were cleaned up. As the Oreo is my absolute favorite of all possible cookie, this story made me salivate at the idea of a sea of delicious Oreos cascading along the highway. Mmm. If you could have 20,000 of one type of cookie, which type of cookie would it be? Would you go for the Oreo like I would ... or maybe a nice, moist chocolate chip? Or snickerdoodle? Or oatmeal raisin...?

Topic: Random
Posted by caroline81 at 10:40 AM EDTSo, it's okay to believe in aliens. At least that's what the Vatican Church has to say. Reverend Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, said, "How can we rule out that life may have developed elsehwere? Just as we consider earthly creatures a 'brother' and 'sister,' why should we not talk about an 'extraterrestrial brother'?" He also commented that belief in aliens "doesn't contradict our faith" and that the Big Bang Theory is the most "reasonable" explanation for the creation of the universe. This brings me to today's question of the day: Do you believe in extra-terrestrial life? If you are religious, do you agree with the Vatican's comments that belief in aliens and belief in God are not mutually exclusive? And if you DO think that aliens exist, do you think that we should continue spending funds on space exploration to go out there and find them? Topic: Random
Posted by caroline81 at 9:32 AM EDTLast month, the journal Intelligence published a study asserting that the oldest children in families are likely to have the highest IQs, and youngest children are likely to have the lowest (giving we older siblings everywhere lifelong bragging rights over our younger brothers and sisters). Meanwhile, youngest children are more likely to be creative, radical, and pioneering. So, what do you think? Based on your experience, does birth order have an effect on personality?
