Following Up With Nursedeb50

Topic: Members

At Gamesville, we love hearing from previous winners, and it's especially great to hear when someone's winnings let them do something fun, different, or even life changing.

Debra Furman (a.k.a., Gamesviller "nursedeb50" of Ladson, SC) won Three-Eyed Bingo back in 2004, and she recently sent us this follow up...

"Just wanted to drop ya'll a line--give you an update--I won on Three-Eyed Bingo a couple of years ago. I used part of the money to buy a peanut wagon so I could have a different profession. The wagon that I bought was 4'x5' with one pot on it, and I made a good profit off it.
"Recently, my 72 year old father made me a new peanut wagon with 6 pots (a burner under each one), a 30 gallon water tank, lighting, and an air conditioner. I now sell three times what I was doing just a few short years ago.
"I have tried really hard to take every penny I can and reinvest it to the peanut business. I just want to say thank you for providing Three-Eyed Bingo; I would have not had the money to start my peanut business if it wasn't for you folks. You made a big difference in my life. THANKS."
Thank YOU, nursedeb50--and congratulations! We're happy to have been able to help, and wish you all the best.

Gamesville's Magazine Ad

Topic: Random

We were doing some spring cleaning around the Gamesville offices this weekend and discovered this ad that appeared in a number of magazines back in 2000/2001. It's kind of cheeky, so we thought we'd share it with you. Click the smaller image for a larger version of the ad.

I think the authorities are still searching for the missing artwork.

The Gamesville TV Commercial

Topic: Random

Back in 2001, Gamesville had a commercial that appeared on television sets across the United States. Check it out below by pressing the "play" button; I also included a couple old Lycos commercials from that same era that I really liked.

And if you haven't tried it yet, check out Lycos MIX for all your video sharing needs.

Your Jokes: The Third Wish

Topic: Jokes

Gamesviller "ascendedspirit" from Nova Scotia sends us this joke:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and their manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. The three of them rub the lamp and a Genie comes out.

The Genie says, "For freeing me, I'll give each of you one wish."

"Me first! Me first!" says the admin clerk. "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world."

Puff! She's gone.

"Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life."

Puff! He's gone.

"OK," the Genie says to the manager. "What is your wish?"

The manager says, "I want those two back in the office after lunch."

The moral of this story: Always let your boss have the first say!

For sharing this gem with us, ascendedspirit scored herself 100 GV Rewards.

New GV Rewards Badges

Topic: New Features

Gamesville Rewards or "GV Rewards" is a feature on Gamesville that rewards you for playing our games. As you earn more GV Rewards, you win cool new badges. The more GV Rewards you earn, the better your badges get. These badges are Gamesville's way of recognizing the people who play lots of games and earn lots of GV Rewards. Badges are displayed beside the member names in the game's room list -- that is, the chat panel in the game.

Recently, a number of people have written in, asking what badges are available, how many GV Rewards does it take to obtain a badge, and do we have any new ones planned?

You can find the answers to these and more in our Help section; however, I wanted to answer those questions directly here in the blog today because a) it's the right thing to do, and b) we have some new badges to show off.

There are now 10 brand new badges you can go for: the owl, the bell, the butterfly, the eye, the cherries, the lemon, the flower, the Lucky 7, the apple, and the watermelon!

The chart below displays what all the badges look like, and what it takes to get them.

Here are the original 24 badges...

Here are the 10 brand new badges...

We're really excited about these new badges, and hope you have a good time trying to win them!

Weird Wire: Judge's Missing Pants Lead To Big Suit

Topic: Weird Wire™

At the Gamesville Blog, our team of crack reporters (or is that, cracked reporters?) keeps an eye out for weird stories that come across the news wires. Here's one from our friends at CNN:

A missing pair of pants has led to one big suit.

A customer got so steamed when a dry cleaner lost his trousers that he sued for $65 million. Two years later, he is still pressing his suit.

The case has demoralized the South Korean immigrant owners of the mom-and-pop business and brought demands that the customer -- an administrative law judge in Washington -- be disbarred and removed from office for pursuing a frivolous and abusive claim.

Jin Nam Chung, Ki Chung and their son, Soo Chung, are considering moving back to Seoul, seven years after they opened their dry-cleaning business in the nation's capital, said their lawyer, Chris Manning.

"They're out a lot of money, but more importantly, incredibly disenchanted with the system," Manning said. "This has destroyed their lives."

The customer, Roy L. Pearson Jr., who has been representing himself, declined to comment.

According to court documents, the problem began in May 2005 when Pearson became a judge and brought several suits for alterations to Custom Cleaners in Washington. A pair of pants from one suit was missing when he requested it two days later.

Pearson asked the cleaners for the full price of the suit: more than $1,000.

But a week later, the Chungs said the pants had been found and refused to pay. Pearson said those were not his pants, and decided to take the Chungs to the cleaners and sue.

Manning said the cleaners have made three settlement offers to Pearson: $3,000, then $4,600, then $12,000.

But Pearson was not satisfied and expanded his calculations beyond one pair of pants. Because Pearson no longer wanted to use his neighborhood dry cleaner, he asked in his lawsuit for $15,000 -- the cost of renting a car every weekend for 10 years to go to another business.

Manning said Pearson somehow thinks he has the right to a dry cleaner within four blocks of his apartment.

The bulk of the $65 million demand comes from Pearson's strict interpretation of Washington consumer protection law, which imposes fines of $1,500 per violation, per day. Pearson counted 12 violations over 1,200 days, then multiplied that by three defendants.

Much of Pearson's case rests on two signs Custom Cleaners once had on its walls: "Satisfaction Guaranteed" and "Same Day Service." He claims the signs amount to fraud.

The case is set for trial June 11.

And all this time I thought judges didn't wear anything under those robes!
